Carmen and Bill decided to downsize from a 5,000 square foot (464 square meter) house to a 400 square foot (37 square meter) small house for many reasons. One is that with a great house comes great responsibilities like cleaning. Their tiny home was built by Incredible Tiny Homes and everything was custom designed by the couple.

They currently live in the Incredible Tiny Homes Community in New Port, Tennessee. The couple’s tiny house is 12 m long, 3 m wide and 4 m high. It has no fewer than 16 large windows which are perfect for enjoying the view as the house is nestled in a forest on top of the mountain.

The roof is gray metal and the siding is two tones of brown. The couple is currently living off the grid as the home is on the mountain and further away than the rest of the small community. They also plan to add a back deck and have all the amenities ready in about two months.

The front of the house has been nicely decorated with a few shelves on which artificial plants have been placed. These plants add a bit of color to the brown exterior. There are two entrances to this house, with the rear one serving as the main entrance and giving access to the mud room.

Many tiny houses don’t have a mud room, you usually get straight into the living room. Carmen didn’t like the idea, however, so she added an entryway rug to wipe off shoes, as well as a shoe and clothes rack. A stackable washer and dryer was installed on the other side of the mud room.

There is plenty of storage space with plenty of shelving and upper and lower cabinets. The extractor hood is integrated into a wine cabinet that has some holes to store the wine bottles.

Lounge area and kitchen are openly connected. The ceiling has a rather exotic design, with a vaulted roof with three wooden arches that have lots of fairy lights and plastic flowers. This area has a coffee table and two sofas, one closer to the kitchen and a smaller one next to the stairs.

A small opening behind the small couch takes us to the basement. Here we find fitness equipment, a yoga mat, an open closet and a kettle.

The attic area is accessible via a staircase from the living room. It houses a small office with a desk, a laptop and an air conditioner.

Right next to it we find the bathroom on the upper floor. This bathroom is slightly larger than the one on the ground floor. Like the other bathroom, this one has a flush toilet, a tiny sink, a stall shower and a closet for cleaning supplies.

The bedroom is small but cosy, it has been furnished with a king size bed, a wardrobe and a nice view of the rest of the house and the arches.

The couple didn’t mention how much their tiny house cost. A similar one from the same manufacturer costs around $104,900 (€98,369), so expect to pay about that or more if you decide to add a lot of customization.

It might be a steep price to pay for some, but it’s quite affordable compared to traditional homes. Especially when you consider that it has the advantage of being transported and moved almost anywhere you want.
