Business: Diagnostic Clinic plans new home | Business Beat

The Diagnostic Clinic of Longview expects to break ground on a “massive” new facility before the end of the year.

In 2020, the multidisciplinary medical group put up a sign on a vacant lot on East Hawkins Parkway saying it is the “future home of Longview’s diagnostic clinic.” Chief Financial Officer Tina Haggard said last week that the project was on hold at the time due to COVID-19.

“We’ve been waiting for the right time to start again,” she said, and now DCOL is in the process of developing the facility’s layout. “We hope to break ground before the end of the year.”

She explained that DCOL leases the property where its doctors operate now on the Longview Regional Medical Center campus and that it has outgrown that space. It will also be present there after the move, but a large part of the medical profession will move to the new campus.

“We’re still processing what that’s going to look like,” Haggard said.

She said the new location will be a “massive facility” with more than 100,000 square feet of space.

The Diagnostic Clinic’s website states that it was founded in 1975 and has 18 locations, more than 90 physicians and 30 mid-sized providers. Its primary focus is primary care, but it also offers 16 subspecialties with services including: pediatrics and adolescent medicine; obstetrics/gynaecology; and general practice and internal medicine.

Smoothie King location

Smoothie King has begun permitting for its new West Longview location.

The City of Longview previously granted Smoothie King franchisee Matt McKinney permission to add a drive-through window to a former Alpine Laundry and salon at 2002 Toler Road.

This month, the firm applied for planning permission for an estimated $200,000 conversion of the 1,308-square-foot building “into a drive-thru Smoothie King restaurant.” The application states, “Appropriate plumbing, electrical, and cosmetic updates will be made.”

Further details were not immediately available from McKinney.

McKinney of Tyler also operates the existing Smoothie King in Longview, at Loop 281 near Fourth Street, and several other locations in East Texas.

Annexation, zoning applications

Longview City Council this month approved several proposals that will enable new commercial and residential developments.

Aaon Coil Products Expansion: The City Council gave its blessing to a zoning for nearly 9 acres of land owned by Aaon Coil Products adjacent to its Gum Springs Road facility, changing the designation from single and dual family zoning to light industrial. The land is east of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard north of Young Street.

Aaon, which manufactures commercial heating and air conditioning equipment, completed a 220,000 square foot expansion in 2021. The zone change makes way for Aaon’s plans to double that with an additional 220,000 square foot expansion.

QT on the way: Council members approved a motion to annex and then a zone change for about 5 acres of land to build a Quik Trip – or QT – gas station on the southeast corner of Eastman Road and the Interstate 20 Access Road. In addition to the annexation, the council agreed to designate the country for “heavy commercial” development.

Spring Hill Developments: Several new retail and residential developments would be built in the Spring Hill area as part of the City Council-approved measures.

Developer Robert Wallin plans retail development on approximately 5.6 acres where the council has approved a zoning from single family homes to general retail. The land is on the southeast corner of Gilmer Street and Spring Hill Street and on Gilmer Road.

Wallin also received approval for a zoning change of approximately 3.6 acres to the rear of the same property where he plans to build a housing development. Details are still being worked out, but Wallin told the council that despite the zoning change allowing for smaller lots and homes, he plans to build three- to four-bedroom homes that range from 1,400 to 1,600 square feet, which he says is similar is to what is being built in the area.

The City Council also approved the conversion of 6.23 acres of land at 4125 Gregg Tex Road from farming to a townhouse. Gilmer-based developer Brady Chambers is planning a townhouse development there.
